Nestled in the heart of El Paseo, Between the Sheets has served as a haven for luxury bedding and home furnishing enthusiasts for nearly four decades. As the brand approaches its 38th anniversary this November, the store continues to set itself apart with its unique, custom-made products and dedication to bringing the latest trends from Europe directly to clients.
Vice president of sales and merchandise Teresa Cross emphasizes the store’s commitment to quality and customization. “We travel to Europe for a couple of months a year to customize products from different countries and import them directly,” Cross says. “This allows us to customize color, detailing, sizing, and the quality of each product, bringing the best products at the best prices directly to the client.” This commitment allows the store to sell at high-end luxury price points as well as in the budget-friendly range.
The store’s diverse products cater to various styles, reflecting the unique character of its two locations. “We try to get a little bit more of the midcentury vibe in the desert store and a little bit more coastal in the Newport store,” Cross says. This careful curation ensures that each store resonates with its local clientele while offering a glimpse into the broader world of interior design.
To satisfy the growing shift toward relaxed and lived-in spaces, Between the Sheets speaks to the desert lifestyle through organic palettes. “We have a lot of wood textures, natural stones, and greenery with a little nod to midcentury — which is very much a desert look,” Cross says.
Between the Sheets is more than just a bedding store. A curated collection of gifts and custom bath accessories helps distinguish its selection from other retailers. “We have more custom bath accessories than anyone in the U.S.,” Cross says. “We see our regulars coming in often to buy gifts for housewarmings, birthdays, weddings, and dinners. They’re all available at different price points.”
Between the Sheets also prides itself on its exceptional customer service provided by a skilled team. “All of the salespeople in our stores are designers. Clients can bring photos, and we work with them on the sales floor. We lay designs out and send them photos back virtually,” Cross explains. This personalized service ensures that every client finds exactly what they need, whether they’re furnishing an entire home or looking for something special.
The store hosts about 10 events per year, showcasing new arrivals and bestsellers in a fun and convivial atmosphere. “We usually get the artists and designers in to showcase their products,” Cross says. They also hold three major sales a year in January, August, and November.
Between the Sheets’ commitment to quality products and exceptional customer service remains unwavering, making them a true gem in the world of home furnishings. “I love El Paseo,” Cross says. “We treat each other as a team.”
